Renville County seeks an Appraiser II to perform professional appraisal work for residential and commercial properties according to Minnesota Statutes. The position uses cost approach, income approach, and sales comparison approach methodologies along with experienced judgment.

Essential Duties

  • Appraise market value of residential and commercial property using multiple valuation approaches
  • Enter and maintain property data in County computer appraisal system (CAMA)
  • Research market trends and gather information from contractors, property owners, and real estate professionals
  • Assist with annual board of review meetings including screening complaints and defending values
  • Conduct property inspections and measurements for new and existing structures
  • Process property splits, combinations, and re-evaluations
  • Represent the County Assessor’s Office at appeal boards
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data and business proceedings

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school
  • Three years related experience in property appraisal
  • Must be an Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA)
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license with no restrictions
  • Completion of Certified Minnesota Assessor Specialist & Accredited Minnesota Assessor Licenses

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of appraisal principles and methods
  • Strong understanding of building construction types and materials
  • Proficiency with CAMA systems and property assessment software
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities

Physical Requirements

Position involves approximately 50-60% outside appraisal work and 40-50% office work. Must be able to:

  • Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Work in various weather conditions
  • Navigate rough terrain and construction sites
  • Operate standard office equipment and vehicles
  • Maintain close and distance vision for property inspection
