Appraiser Trainee
About the job
Under the direction of the Real Estate Supervisor, the Appraiser Trainee performs responsible technical work in measuring, classifying, gathering data, recording and sketching to scale real estate improvements to include residential, commercial and agricultural properties. An Appraiser Trainee is involved with decisions of final value and will provide documentation and justification of value at informal hearing levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and locate real estate property from plats, maps and legal descriptions
- Record assets of properties following set procedures for tax valuation purposes
- Perform interior and exterior property inspections
- Measure and sketch to scale all types of properties
- Field review properties according to Property Valuation Division guidelines
- Data collection for new construction and existing building permits
- Maintain plot plans for agricultural properties
- Assist with informal hearing levels in support of property values
- Conduct field reviews for appeals and photograph properties
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 30 hours of specialized appraisal courses from Property Valuation Department
- Valid Kansas driver’s license
- General knowledge of mathematics and construction materials
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- 75% of time involves lifting, bending, pushing and walking over rough terrain
- May lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
- Requires sustained hand and finger movements for typing and documentation
Additional Information
Position requires successful completion of continual education courses sponsored by the property valuation department to achieve and maintain required job skills. The employee is expected to acquire necessary skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position.
