Company Description

The Office of the Assessor-Recorder is responsible for fairly and accurately executing property assessment functions in accordance with State Constitution and State and local laws. Our core responsibilities include identifying all taxable property in San Francisco, establishing taxable value, and applying legal exemptions.

Role Description

Under general supervision, the Real Property Appraiser performs professional appraisal work in connection with assessing, examining, analyzing, and evaluating real property of moderate complexity for tax assessment purposes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance and guidance in assessing, appraising or equalization
• Monitors municipal appraisal activities including revaluations
• Meets with town officials to discuss appraisal procedures
• Provides accurate and concise reports on municipal appraisal procedures
• Instructs officials on property tax laws and regulations
• Provides narrative appraisals for equalization purposes
• Testifies as expert witness in court
• Maintains strict confidentiality of tax information
